Electric shock torture used on a person with disabilities at the Judge Rotenberg Center in Canton, MA. Watch, reblog and help this go viral so that the people know what’s going on and work to stop it. (CW: Torture, ableism, violence)
Just… why? Do some people really think “lol I really enjoy hurting people, I should become a nurse/staff member of a (mental) hospital”? Because I can’t believe that anyone would truly believe that methods like this could really make a positive change.
[well, maybe they think that dead patients or patients who only stare at the wall are a positive change…]
It is a combination of options 1 and 2. A lot of people looking for someone to abuse get a job caring for vulnerable people - note also the high rates of abuse of elderly people in care. However, the larger system that allows this to happen is held in place by people who are more ignorant and/or callous, and either believe a quiet patient is a happy patient, or simply care more about their own peace of mind than the patients.
