OK, girlfriend.  If you’ve got brown recluses, I must share with you my Grandma’s home remedy for brown recluse bites.  Granny saved my ass when I got bitten at her house when I was about 12.  The 25 year old ER doc kept saying “Yes ma’am that is a brown recluse and I don’t know how or why but what you did sure worked.”  I have a scar smaller than a quarter, and that’s IT.  

You need aloe vera (pure aloe vera, usually in plant form,  like one of the little plants you can buy in the garden center at Wally World) and Vitamin C tablets.  Crush the vitamin C tablets.  Mix them with the aloe into a thick, gooey paste.  Get it on the bite as fast as you can.  It’ll crystallize as it draws out the poison.

If you’re sure you’ve got them, please get some of this stuff in your house ASAP.

The Self Made Men has no interest in being another FTM resource made specifically for “white people”. We have been remodeling our website and graphics to make us a safe place for all trans people. When it comes down to it, our number one and only focus is on transgender and gender issues, and not race or ethnicity whatsoever, but by putting humans in our advertisements and graphics we’ve been rather exclusive and we apologize. 

In addition to our efforts to represent less people in general, and if so, more TPOCs and the Latin@ community, we also invite writers and artists to help us out. If there are cultural differences, please help us by writing for The Big Brother and SOFFA programs. We will always represent the population that uses us, so please feel free to use us. 

…Wait what? POC are still humans. I’m honestly confused about what you’re trying to say here - representlesspeople in general? Shouldn’t your goal be to representmorepeople and be more inclusive of trans* men with a variety of life experiences?

And I think you’ve got it the wrong way ‘round there - who you represent will always dictate the population that uses you. Why should trans* POC participate if you aren’t making an effort to include them? Whatever this is, it isn’t a genuine attempt to reach out to trans* POC.

Okay, so I’m seeing a lot of things floating around on my dash today, but what I’m especially seeing is fights about whether or not rape jokes are funny. And, of course, I’m seeing this story, about a comedian responding to the suggestion that rape jokes aren’t funny with the words “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl got raped by like, 5 guys right now? Like right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her…” tangled up in the center of a lot of these discussions. And it occurs to me, with all this anger going around, that there are some things that maybe aren’t being said that, I think, need to be said. Am I saying the anger isn’t deserved? Of course not. Am I saying the anger doesn’t have it’s place, or doesn’t need to be acknowledged, respected, and heard? Of course not. Am I saying that I am, myself, not angry? No, I’m really not saying that at all. I’ve got a lot of anger in my heart about this topic, both in the abstract and in the upsettingly specific; however, I have had to learn to separate from that anger, because it makes it difficult to live my life. 

So this is not an angry post; this is an explaining post. This is a post where we just talk. And what we’re going to talk about is what “rape jokes aren’t funny,” really means. Or, to put it another way: this is a post about why rape jokes aren’t funny.
